In passato il genere mwngXeronema era incluso nella famiglia delle mwnwLiliacee.cite-ref-chase2000-3-1[3] Dahlgren et al. (1985) ne hanno proposto lo spostamento nella famiglia Phormiaceaecite-ref-4[4] ma successivi studi di mwqqfilogenetica mwqgmolecolare basati sul mwqwsequenziamento del DNAcite-ref-5[5], ne hanno suggerito il posizionamento in una famiglia a sé stante (Xeronemataceae).cite-ref-chase2000-3-2[3]
